A Testimony of Change

Here is a testimony from a young man that I have had the privilige to minister to. It is a true testimony of God’s mercy and grace.I hope you will be blessed and encouraged when reading this.

My name is Ricky, I am 23 years old, was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and have two older sisters. Growing up with two sisters, no brothers and no father figure was pretty rough. My mom and dad got divorced when I was 2 years old, so we moved from the Westside of Birmingham to the Northside. From the time I was two years old until I was seventeen, my mom and I lived in the “projects” where there was killing and drug dealing all day, every day.

My mom did everything she could to raise me, but without a job and only getting a check once a month, it was just enough to get by on. As I grew older and was able to understand the struggle that mom went through I began to learn the street life and how to make a quick dollar. I did things that I thought was right because the money was good, and besides, never got caught. By the age of 15 I was living the life as if there was no tomorrow. I had money, girls, jewelry, etc. Nobody could tell me nothing!

My life began to change. The next year I had a car accident that could have took my life. I fell asleep behind the wheel; the car flipped six or seven times and ended upside down. The air bag hit me so hard it knocked me out, and on top of that, I wasnt wearing a seatbelt. I walked away from the accident with only a sprained ankle. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to stop me from living the street life.

In the same year, just a few months later, I had another car accident. A friend and I was racing and somehow he lost control of the car, sending him into my lane and I hit the driver’s side of his car at about 75 miles per hour. Both cars were smashed but no one was hurt. Still that wasn’t enough to slow me down, since I had the money to buy another car. I had money to do whatever I wanted to do whenever I wanted to do it.

That next year, when I was 17 years old, some friends and I went on a robbery where a man’s life was taken. I was arrested and charged with Capital Murder and sentenced to Life Without Parole. Since being in prison I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and realized that God had been trying to get my attention all along, but I was too busy doing my own thing and trying to do things my own way. As I look back, the devil was trying to kill me but God was going to do whatever He had to do to get my attention. It was God who brought me out of those car accidents, as well as so many other things I haven’t mentioned. If only I had sought God first and His righteousness, all those things I was trying to get would have been added to me (Matt 6:33).

Today I just thank God for being head over my life and for the love that He has, not just for me, but also for us all. If it had not been for the Lord who has always been at my side, I would not be able to share this testimony. I encourage everyone to invite Jesus Christ into your heart and live the life that He has planned for you. I promise you’ll enjoy it. Blessings be to all!      “For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”
