I believe that most Christians today are not desperate for God. We seem to go through life without giving any thought to the one who has created us, loves us, and provides for us. We know He exists but we have no real desire to know Him, or pursue Him.
God desperately longs for us to seek Him. Yet we take for granted all that He has done and passionately pursue other things (idols) that will never satisfy that ceaseless ache in our heart. If you’ve ever had that ceaseless ache in the center of your heart, you know the depths of the word desperate. Desperate people ache for fulfillment. And they’ll go to any lengths to get it. Desperate people are passionate people. Desperation can drive us almost as much as it can drive us crazy. It’s a fine line. But as a Christian it is probably the most worthwhile one we ever walk.
Desperation is the crux of worship. It’s our daily longing to know God more, to know ourselves more, to live lives of fullness that bring honor and glory to God. It’s the core of our being desperately reaching to our Creator, the only one who can reach us where we are and bring us up out of our desperate state.
If we are desperately in love with God and have a deep desire to know Him more, then what lengths will you go to pursue Him?
