Jeremiah 2:13 for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

I wrote this poem after I did a study on the implications of this verse.

While traveling through this life down here
We forsake the fountain of life I fear
We often try to drink from the wrong source
Little by little it takes us by force.

We hew us cisterns that look great
But always offer us a bad fate
These cisterns broken we don’t know
Can’t hold the water, which in it flows.

Drinking from broken cisterns has been the cause
Why many have died and payed a cost
How great these cisterns may have been
But deathly waters have flowed within.

So lets take the time and drink from the well
Where grace, forgiveness, and love doeth dwell
The fountain of living waters is the source
It will bring peace and change your course.

Christ is the fountain from whence waters flow
When thirsty, to Him we will always go
Grace, love, and forgiveness He’ll extend
That will give us life till our end.
