“Inside Out Dad” is a character-based educational and support program developed the National Fatherhood Initiative. This program is designed for twelve weekly sessions in a small group format and connects inmate fathers to their families, helping to improve behavior while still incarcerated and to break the cycle of recidivism by developing pro-fathering attitudes, knowledge, and skills, along with strategies to prepare fathers for release. Incarcerated fathers get the tools they need to become more involved, responsible, and committed in the lives of their children — providing increased motivation for them to get out and stay out.
Within the structure of the 12 week program, the primary focus is on the following issues:
- Promoting responsible fatherhood and holistic parenting.
- Empowering fathers to assume emotional, moral, spiritual, psychological and financial responsibility for their children, both during and upon release from incarceration.
- Accentuating the psycho-social development of both father and child.
- Meeting the psychological and physiological challenges of being an incarcerated fatherhood.
